Cyberpunk 2077 Controversy: Gender in Video Game Characters and the Importance of Gameplay and Storylines

I don’t really see any reason to have a well-developed character where gender is irrelevant. Look at Cyberpunk. 2077.

The freedom of choice in Cyberpunk 2077 is great, but V isn’t really a well-developed character in my opinion.

Further on, @dsteensma shows his colours. An exclusively female character is immediately “woke”. I am an older gamer, and I enjoy games like Jill of the Jungle, Portal (1 and 2) and Alien: Isolation, but also games with only a male playable character. Oh, and Half-Life: Alyx was quite fun in VR. Gameplay and, where necessary, a good story are the most important to me.

Whether this Star Wars game meets my quality requirements is beyond the discussion. In any case, it is only released on the Epic Store and Ubisoft Store, which makes it difficult for the game to compete with other games before my time. Perhaps on Steam a year later, complete and with a big discount? Who knows. My backlog is large enough that I don’t have to worry about it.

Having a preference is fine. Someone who writes off a game based solely on an exclusive gender of the main character and loudly shares their opinion by labeling a game based solely on that as “woke” is concerned about the little things in life. I don’t care about that.
