Los Angeles. Business mogul Elon Musk said on Monday that the broadcast on his social network X of the interview he had planned with Republican candidate for the White House, Donald Trump, was affected by a “massive” cyber attack.
“It appears a massive DDOS attack has occurred against X. We are working to stop it,” the head of the platform formerly known as Twitter wrote, referring to a cyberattack known as a denial of service attack designed to overwhelm the capabilities of the company’s servers and cause the site to go dark.
The conversation between the two billionaires was scheduled for 8:00 p.m. on the US East Coast on Trump’s account, which was suspended after the assault on the Capitol by his supporters on January 6, 2021, but which Musk reinstated after buying the social network the following year.
The exchange was finally able to start shortly after 8:30 p.m., but it was not immediately clear whether all users would be able to access it. By around 8:50 p.m., the chat had more than a million participants.
Musk promised on his X account to publish the recording as soon as possible after the end of the talk.
Until now, the former president had not taken control of his former favorite communication channel and continued to use his own platform, Truth Social, for his daily posts.
But a flurry of messages on Monday, including campaign videos and promotion of the interview, signaled a return to X for the presidential hopeful, who is trying to relaunch his campaign after Democrat Kamala Harris entered the race.
The interview was planned to be “unscripted, with no limits on topics and should be very entertaining,” Musk said earlier.
