There has been a cyber attack on Ukrainian ministries and banks
Kyiv, Feb. 15, LETA – AP. A cyber attack on several Ukrainian ministries and banks took place on Tuesday, Ukrainian authorities said.
At least ten Ukrainian websites, including the Ministries of Defense, Foreign Affairs and Culture, and the two largest state-owned banks in Ukraine, have been shut down as a result of the DDOS attacks.
Customers of the largest state-owned bank, Privatbank, and state-owned Oschadbank, have reported problems making payments online and in apps.
“Depositors’ money is not at risk,” the Ministry said in a statement.
Deputy Minister Viktor Žora confirmed that a cyber attack had taken place.
The ministry said Russia was behind the attack on Tuesday.
“It is possible that the aggressor resorted to petty hooliganism tactics because his aggressive plans are basically not working,” the statement said.
In mid-January, a cyber attack hit 70 Ukrainian government websites. Ukraine accused Russia of holding it.
The United States has accused Moscow of invading Ukraine, stressing that there are serious concerns about the cyber security situation.
