Dubai, United Arab Emirates (CNN) – The official Lebanese News Agency reported, on Sunday, that the departure and arrival screens at Rafic Hariri International Airport in the capital, Beirut, had been subjected to electronic hacking, and the agency explained that it was being remedied.
The agency said: “The departure and arrival screens at Rafic Hariri International Airport in Beirut were subjected to electronic hacking some time ago and are being remedied.”
Screens at the airport showed a message attacking Lebanese Hezbollah and its Secretary-General Hassan Nasrallah, and warning against dragging Lebanon into war with Israel.
The message posted on the screens at the airport says: “In the name of God and the people, Rafik Hariri Airport is not the airport of Hezbollah and Iran. Oh Hassan Nasrallah, you will not find a supporter if Lebanon is entangled in a war for which you will bear responsibility and consequences.”
The message added: “Oh Hezbollah, you will not fight against anyone. You destroyed our port, and now you want to destroy our airport because of the introduction of weapons. Let the airport be freed from the state’s control.”
Later, the Lebanese Agency reported that “the cyber attack on the departure and arrival screens at the airport led to the disruption of the BHS baggage inspection system, and that the inspections platoon in the Internal Security Forces at the airport is working to implement the alternative plan, and to maintain normal movement at the airport with all Security and administrative agencies operating at the airport.
The Lebanese channel LBCI Lebanon News stated, in a post on its account on the “X” platform, that “the Army Intelligence Directorate and the Information Division of the Internal Security Forces have begun technical investigations to find out who is behind the hacking of the work system at Rafic Hariri International Airport.”
Lebanese media and users on the “X” platform, previously Twitter, reported that an unknown group calling itself “Soldiers of the Lord” worked to “hack the screens of Beirut International Airport and broadcast messages against Hezbollah and Iran.”
