Not all of the travel destinations announced in the summer timetable can be reached from the two Saxon airports for a long time. Others have joined.

The Condor planes took off from Leipzig to Athens exactly twice, and then it was over. The connection, which was advertised as a hub to eleven other destinations such as Naxos, Lesbos and Paros when the summer flight schedule was presented, has been suspended until further notice, said airport spokesman Uwe Schuhart (46) on request. Load factors were below the airline’s expectations.
There are also no longer flights to Düsseldorf from Leipzig for the time being. This is probably due to the fact that business travel has collapsed due to the corona pandemic and the connection offered by Eurowings was poorly utilized.
Cyprus is also no longer included in the Leipzig timetable. Instead, Djerba and Monastir (Tunisia) were added as new destinations.

“Airlines and tour operators look at where the bookings go and then spontaneously reschedule,” says Schuhart. The flight plan can therefore change almost every hour. “The situation is very volatile.”

This also applies to Dresden Airport. For reasons of economy, Eurowings has completely canceled the connection to Cologne-Bonn and Stuttgart. In holiday traffic, Tenerife and Gran Canaria flew out of the summer flight plan.
“It is really urgent to find out from your travel provider or airline before departure whether the specified connection is still available or whether there are any changes,” recommends airport spokesman Schuhart.
There is a positive development in terms of intercontinental connections. Alongside Frankfurt and Munich, Istanbul is becoming increasingly important to Saxon tourists as a springboard into the world. Turkish Airlines is now returning to Leipzig and is planning daily flights to the hub on the Bosporus from July. Istanbul currently offers flight connections to 277 destinations worldwide – every day.
