A few days ago, customs officers from the Furth traffic control unit in the forest of the Regensburg main customs office pulled a small van coming from southeastern Europe out of the flow of traffic on the A 3 near Straubing and took the vehicle to a nearby rest stop for a customs inspection. When questioned, the 56-year-old driver stated that he was on the way to Frankfurt am Main, but he did not have any goods with him that required declaration. However, when checking the luggage, it quickly became clear that the traveler was not very careful about the truth: between the items of clothing there were a total of 13 fake luxury watches from various brands as well as four high-quality sunglasses. The value of the original pieces is around 70,000 euros. During two further raids by the Further customs officers, it emerged that the travelers coming from southeastern Europe had not declared a total of around 32,000 euros. The customs officers set a total amount of around 4,000 euros as security for the expected penalties and procedural costs. In addition, the Further customs officers managed to seize around 24 grams of hashish, six grams of amphetamine and five grams of marijuana as part of checking train passengers. The officers received support in their work from a drug detection dog.
During their inspection activities, the officers also seized around 11,500 untaxed cigarettes and three airsoft guns without the required inspection marks. In all cases, the Further customs officers initiated appropriate criminal proceedings.
