Offenbach (dpa / lhe) – So little confetti was rare: The fifth season is at its peak, but celebrating together is only possible to a very limited extent due to the corona pandemic. With creative ideas, fools all over Hessen make the best of the situation. Carnival clubs organize costume competitions or have put together entire online sessions, including hand-made speeches, primarily via social media.

Passionate hobbyists from the Offenbach Carnival Association (OKV) took weeks of detailed work to recreate a miniature version of the parade that rolled through the neighboring city of Frankfurt last year. The protagonists have been replaced with toy figures, and a rubber duckling is also used. There are prince and grand carriages, thanks to a converted grill motor they drive past the disguised audience and the backdrop, which has also been recreated. On the coming Shrove Sunday, the result should be seen on Facebook and Youtube, among others.

Good deeds are also part of the foolish offer this year: under the motto “Shopping instead of marching in”, the Fulda carnival clubs have been offering food purchases since the beginning of the year – of course in disguise. They do not want to miss the opportunity to make people happy even under Corona conditions. The Lorsch carnival association “Rock ‘n’ Rabbits” called for garbage collection in costume.

“Right now it is important that people get out of everyday life for at least a moment and have a reason to smile,” says the President of the Federation of German Carnival (BDK), Klaus-Ludwig Fess. Now you can show what it is all about: “The heartfelt is what our customs are.” He doesn’t expect that the next session can be celebrated as usual, says Fess. But maybe there will be more freedom at the start on November 11th thanks to the vaccinations – everyone hoped that.
