On April 25, the Customs Financial Control Service (FKS) inspected construction sites nationwide. The audits focused on social security obligations, the statutory minimum wage, illegal employment, bogus self-employment and so-called benefit fraud.
Around 70 customs officers from the Lörrach, Freiburg and Offenburg locations in the districts of Lörrach, Breisgau-Hochschwarzwald, in the urban district of Freiburg, in the district of Emmendingen and in the Ortenau district were also on the road on various construction sites in the district of the main customs office in Lörrach, and questioned 230 people without any prior suspicion workers on their employment relationships. According to the first results, employees at the Offenburg site had to initiate two criminal proceedings and four fines, and one criminal proceeding at the Freiburg site. In all cases, workers were found who were staying in Germany illegally and therefore could not produce a valid work permit. The controls from the Lörrach site initially led to the initiation of fine proceedings against a foreign employer who had not complied with his obligation to notify the customs authorities. In another 23 cases, the officials have to dig deeper and check their findings and the information they have obtained in the companies themselves, in their payroll and financial accounting.
In combating undeclared work, customs pays particular attention to the construction industry. Violations are found here again and again.
Extra information:
The FKS regularly carries out focus tests in various sectors – both nationwide and regionally – with an increased deployment of personnel. On the one hand, customs is pursuing a preventive approach, and the inspections are also an important instrument for counteracting social acceptance of undeclared work and illegal employment.
