custody of the eight police officers lifted

The custody of eight police officers from Pantin (Seine-Saint-Denis), suspected in particular of willful violence and possession of narcotics, were lifted on Friday morning, we learned from the Bobigny prosecutor’s office.

These eight officials, members of the territorial contact brigade of Pantin, had been taken into custody Wednesday morning in the premises of the General Inspectorate of the National Police (IGPN).

The investigation, which “continues in preliminary”, was opened by the public prosecutor’s office of Bobigny in April 2020 and entrusted to the IGPN.

A previous scandal in the department

On Thursday, their custody for “willful violence by persons holding public authority, forgery of public documents, arbitrary arrest, and possession of narcotics” had been extended by an additional 24 hours. According to a source close to the investigation, these police officers must answer “facts that occurred throughout 2020”.

The facts were “brought to the knowledge of the judicial authority” by the Prefecture of police of Paris, indicated this institution.

This new case comes as the department of Seine-Saint-Denis was hit by the scandal of the security and intervention company (CSI). This controversial unit is targeted by fifteen investigations for acts of theft, violence, drug possession and forgery in public writing.

Four police officers were indicted in July 2020, but around twenty officials in total are implicated. The Paris police prefect, Didier Lallement, announced the dissolution of CSI 93, which was finally reorganized and placed under the authority of the Paris CSI.
