Cusco: Limatambo and Mollepata will export 50 tons of Hass avocado per week to Costa Rica | News

Producers from the districts of Limatambo and Mollepata, located in the Cusco province of Anta, will export 50 tons of Hass silver each week to Costa Rica, in Central America, after reaching a commercial agreement with the company California Agro Export.

The direct delivery of this delicious variety will be during the 2025 campaign, a time in which the inhabitants will show their production, the certification and send it to this new market. The work will contribute to the development, growth of rural communities, and job creation.

The Regional Agriculture Management (Geragri) reported that this agreement is carried out through a comprehensive approach that has involved the execution of more than 9,000 personalized technical assistance for producers.

“Essential areas of avocado production have been covered, such as pruning management, fertilization, irrigation, pest control and application of phytoregulators. In addition, good agricultural practices have been implemented that guarantee the quality and sustainability of the crop,” Governor Werner Salcedo Álvarez said at one point.

The adoption of advanced technologies, such as irrigation systems and fertilization techniques, has allowed farmers to significantly improve the quality of avocado, making it competitive with the demands of international markets.

Avocado production in Cusco has become widespread, initially Limatambo and Mollepata promoted production, and now the project “Improvement and Expansion of the Service for the Development of Productive and Competitive Technical Capacities of Avocado Producers” is promoted not only in Anta, but, in La Convencion, Paruro and Chumbivilcas, where their lands showed firmness for this fruit.

In these tropical climate zones, specialized training is developed in nutrition, fertiirrigation, harvest and post-harvest techniques, use of organic fertilizers, weed control and phytosanitary monitoring.

La Geragri hopes that the 2025 campaign will mark a turning point for Cusco avocado producers, consolidate their presence in the global market and contribute to the economic growth of the region.
