The cantonal road south of Vitznau LU will be supplemented with a backrest construction floating above Lake Lucerne, making it wider and safer. The Cantonal Council approved a loan of 14.7 million francs on Monday with 102 votes to 0.
The 350 meter long section that is to be expanded connects Vitznau with the Obere Nase headland. It was built 90 years ago. The road is curvy and only 5.5 meters wide.
The stretch of road is part of the Brunnen-Küssnacht SZ cantonal road. In future it should be seven meters wide. On the lake side, a backrest construction is therefore being created that hovers over the lake and stretches along the rock face.
Construction work is scheduled to start in autumn 2022 and last for two years. In the weeks in which the road has to be closed, Vitznau is opened up with additional ships.
