Steph Curry has extended his contract with the Golden State Warriors for another year. Svenja Brunkhorst is also ending her career. All the news in the update.
Record deal for Curry
Steph Curry is staying with the Warriors for another year. According to ESPN, the 36-year-old is extending his contract until 2027. Curry signed a four-year contract for $215.4 million in 2022. The extension will now bring him another $62.6 million. This breaks the record for the highest contract extension in NBA history.
Curry becomes the third player in history, after LeBron James and Kevin Durant, to earn over $500 million in his career. Curry already stressed in July that he wants to spend his entire career with the “Dubs”: “I want to be a Warrior forever, and at this stage of my career, that is definitely possible.”
The sharpshooter has only played for the Warriors in the NBA so far. After being drafted in 2009, he won four championships with the Californians and was twice MVP. Whether a fifth championship is possible will be seen from October 24th, when Golden State plays its opening game against the Portland Trail Blazers.
Cuban on Thompson’s role
Mark Cuban spoke about the role of new signing Klay Thompson in Jalen Brunson’s podcast. The 34-year-old played for the Golden State Warriors for 13 years and won four championships before moving to the Mavericks in the summer. There, a different role awaits him than with the Warriors.
According to Cuban, Klay will run less with the Mavericks than with Golden State. While he was often active in the offense with his former team, he will be more likely to be in the corner or on the wing in Dallas. There he will be able to use the passes from Luka Doncic and Kyrie Irving. This should make Thompson’s life on the field easier, the club owner explained in the podcast.
Thompson, now 34, signed a three-year, $50 million contract in Dallas. Cuban was confident that the experienced shooter will be an important addition to the Mavericks despite their changed style of play.
