The German Weather Service is currently warning of a storm. In Frankfurt and the surrounding area there can be severe second-level gusts of wind on Thursday.
Offenbach – It’s getting uncomfortable in parts of the Rhine-Main area. At least that is the current weather warning from the German Weather Service (DWD). Accordingly, there is a risk of gusts of wind in the region on Thursday (3 August).
The experts from Offenbach divide strong wind warnings into four categories.
Warning level 1 Wind gusts Warning level 2 Storm gusts and severe squalls Warning level 3 Hurricane gusts and hurricane gusts Warning level 4 Extreme hurricane gusts
The DWD describes air movements over 50 km/h (wind force 7) as gusts of wind. In warning level 2 there are gusts of wind that come at 65 to 89 km/h (wind forces 8 to 9). Heavy gusts of wind are 90 to 104 km/h (wind force 10). Hurricane gusts in warning level 3 are 105 to 119 km/h (wind force 11); Hurricane gusts from 120 km/h (wind force 12) are also classified as warning level 3. Warning level 4 with extreme hurricane gusts is issued from 140 km/h (local).
Current warning of strong winds in the Rhine-Main area
A level 2 weather warning is currently in effect for parts of the Rhine-Main area. At warning level 2, the DWD warns that isolated trees may be uprooted and roofs may be damaged. “Pay special attention to falling branches, roof tiles or objects,” it says.
With a view to hurricane gusts at warning level 3, the DWD warns against staying outdoors. “Among other things, widespread serious damage to buildings is possible. For example, trees can be uprooted and roof tiles, branches or objects can fall. Close all windows and doors! Secure items outdoors! In particular, keep your distance from buildings, trees, scaffolding and high-voltage power lines,” the weather experts said on their website.

The current weather warning for parts of the Rhine-Main area is currently valid until 6 a.m. to 6 p.m. However, this can be adjusted by the experts in Offenbach at any time – and extended in case of doubt.
The DWD was founded in 1952 and is the meteorological service of the Federal Republic of Germany. Among other things, the meteorological security of air and sea shipping and the warning of meteorological events “which can be dangerous for public safety and order” are among his tasks. This is also the case in parts of the Rhine-Main area. (anki)
