Discount, or at least free equipment. Even before the coronavirus pandemic and the chip crisis, it was a completely common incentive for sellers to attract more customers to showrooms. But then sales of new cars fell, automakers produced less due to missing parts, and the number of cars in warehouses dropped significantly. Now the situation is slowly starting to turn around and often really high discounts are back.
“Multivan for a million.” This is the introduction of the promotional offer of the German Volkswagen. This is probably also an introduction that says it all, but just to be sure: “We managed to reduce the price of the Multivan 1.5 TSI below one million crowns, without the customer having to make compromises in terms of safety, comfort and practicality,” explains Mirka Cimrová, head of the Volkswagen Commercial Vehicles division.
A look at the price list suggests that the basic Multivan with a 100-kilowatt four-cylinder 1.5 TSI and a seven-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission costs 999,000 crowns. With tax. It is the first time ever that the new generation of a large-seater car has come under a million crowns. It also means that compared to the standard price list, the price has dropped by almost 293 thousand crowns.
At the same time, the equipment is not cut down: the car has manual air conditioning, a ten-inch touch screen radio, emergency braking, lane assist, LED lights, two side sliding doors or three separate, sliding and removable seats in the second row.
243 thousand crowns will be saved by those interested in the twenty-centimeter extended version of the Multivan, which costs from 1,091,300 crowns in basic equipment together with a 1.5 TSI engine with an output of 100 kilowatts and an automatic transmission. “A promotional discount of up to 262,000 crowns is also available for Multivan cars in all trim levels with other engines,” the representatives of the German manufacturer further describe. For example, the cheapest plug-in hybrid starts at 1,304,777 crowns.
However, the discount that Volkswagen has started to provide on the Multivan is not pioneering from the point of view of the entire market, but rather symptomatic. Promotional offers, although not necessarily in the segment of large MPVs, are gradually starting to increase. For example, Škoda dusted off the Fresh label in July, which had previously been used for discounted versions of its models.
Currently, the Fresh version is available in three models: Kamiqu, Scala and Karoqu. The first two named models start at the same price of 499,900 crowns with a liter three-cylinder TSI engine with an output of 81 kilowatts and a manual transmission. For the first time, the prices of both technically related models have equalized, which is noticed by Pavel Louda, who is the owner of the largest car dealership with a winged arrow in the Czech Republic, Louda Auto.
According to him, it can be expected that compared to the Scala, interest in the Kamiq will increase even more, but it will also convince some people interested in better equipped versions of the Fabia to switch to a larger model. “According to this year’s customer interest, Fabii could (in sales statistics – editor’s note) overtake not only Octavia, but also Kamiq,” Louda also notes.

First prizes for the rejuvenated duo
At the beginning of the week, Škoda also published the first prices of the rejuvenated Scala and Kamiq duo. Both models cost from 599,900 crowns, but this is an introductory limited series First Edition in combination with a liter three-cylinder with an output of 85 kilowatts and a manual transmission. The automatic means an additional fee of 40,000, the more powerful 1.5 TSI costs 679,900 crowns straight with the automatic. The equipment of both cars is rich, including, for example, elements that appeared newly during modernization. This means, among other things, matrix LED headlights, a virtual pedal to control the electric trunk lid, 10.25-inch digital alarm clocks or 17-inch alloy wheels in a new design. Only the Kamiq First Edition will then get a black painted roof, pillars and mirror covers.
In addition, both cars also have a parking camera, front and rear parking sensors, keyless entry and start, blind spot monitoring, adaptive cruise control or adaptive lane keeping as standard. Both models will reach customers in the first quarter of next year, and Škoda has also prepared a discounted financing offer for both models.
The Fresh equipment includes, among other things, two-zone automatic air conditioning, a 6.5-inch radio, heated front seats, front and rear parking sensors, a reversing camera or 16-inch alloy wheels. It is therefore significantly better equipped than the basic Ambition version, but only with a twenty thousand surcharge. And this only applies to the Scala, the Kamiq Fresh comes with the same engine as the Kamiq Ambition.
At Karoq, the Fresh version has become the cheapest in the offer and also the only one that costs less than 700 thousand crowns. In Mladá Boleslav, they recently released a basic three-cylinder, with a fifteen-liter engine with an output of 110 kilowatts or a two-liter diesel engine with an output of 85 kilowatts, so the Karoq suddenly costs at least 715,900 crowns. The Fresh version with the same engines starts at 699,900 crowns, the difference of 16,000 in favor of the action version also applies to other engines. The equipment is richer, for example, with front parking sensors, a reversing camera, heated front seats or keyless locking and starting.
Ford has also significantly increased its prices. It is probably most visible in the two popular SUVs Puma and Kuga. The first-named small model, which practically took over the role of the cornerstone of the offer after the end of the Fiesta, has prices lower overall by 125,000 crowns. With a liter three-cylinder engine with an output of 92 kilowatts, it starts at 474,900 crowns. This is already dangerously close to the Fiesta, whose price list for stock cars starts at 431,900 crowns.
The price of the larger Kuga SUV has fallen even more. In addition to such a favorable price, it already received another bonus, for example, the basic version dropped by a quarter of a million compared to the original list price, which was not affected by any discount. It costs from 672,900 crowns with a 110-kilowatt fifteen-seat unit. And we can go on, the ST-Line equipment is cheaper by 270 to 330 thousand crowns compared to the price list, the ST-Line X and ST-Line X Graphite Tech by 300 to 360 thousand crowns, and the Vignale even by 280 to 340 thousand crowns. In practice, even a plug-in hybrid in the highest equipment can be purchased for less than a million crowns.
Significant savings are also possible with several Japanese car manufacturers. For example, Nissan prepared a Jubilee version for the Juke hybrid, mild hybrid Qashqai and X-Trail as a mild hybrid and hybrid e-Power to celebrate 90 years since its founding. Its equipment corresponds to the level of the N-Connect, but it is up to 200,000 crowns cheaper compared to it. For a change, Toyota is celebrating 30 years since entering the Czech market, and as a result, some models have been discounted by up to 70,000 crowns. And Mazda, in turn, has prepared a discount of up to 100,000 crowns for its SUVs.
Details of these discounts, as well as other selected promotional offers, can be found in the commented gallery.
