The multi-arena is normally home to the bandy team Sandvikens AIK, but next winter for just over a week there will be curling for the whole penny. According to information to DN, the World Cup in curling for women will be decided here on March 18-26, 2023.
The last time Sweden hosted the World Cup was in 2004, when the championship was played in Gävle.
The European Championships were decided in Helsingborg 2019. Then it was gold for both ladies and men through Team Anna Hasselborg and Team Niklas Edin, who are Swedish Olympic representatives and big medal jumps in Beijing next month.
Now there is much to suggest that the Swedish ladies will have the chance to win the World Cup gold they still lack at home. It can in itself come already this year, when the ladies play their World Cup in Prince George, Canada.
This is not the first time that Sandviken is arranging a large curling competition. In 2016, the bandy ice in Göransson Arena was transformed into 24 curling courts when over 500 players participated when the Swedish Curling Association celebrated 100 years.
Swedish Curling Association has a good reputation when it comes to organizing and has also managed to attract the junior WC, which will be decided in Jönköping on 5-12 March this year.
This year’s Men’s World Cup will be decided in Las Vegas. Here, Team Edin aims to take their fourth straight title. The 2023 World Cup will be played in Canada.
