Curious: boy refused BGN 1,200 salary from hotel, despite lack of experience and language – Economy

As winter approaches, preparations for Bansko hotels have begun for the upcoming season. For the first year after the pandemic, the industry plans to return to 2019 attendance levels. However, they face a problem in finding qualified staff to serve guests.

A staff shortage is observed in Bansko before the start of the winter season. According to the hoteliers, it is extremely difficult to find cooks, waiters and waiters. There are also very few young people who want to start working in the sector. In addition to asking for high salaries, applicants often lack the necessary experience or qualifications, the industry says. As a result of the uncertainty caused by the pandemic, many longtime and experienced employees have left the hotels they worked in and replaced them with other professions, with many turning to teaching.

Young people want their starting salary to be at least BGN 1,200.

The first registrations for the winter holidays have already started in the winter resort of Bansko. However, on the threshold of the winter season, hoteliers again find it difficult to find service personnel. While for the young the pay is in the lead, for the older children the working conditions are in first place. Bobby is a chef with 20 years of experience and has been looking for a job for a month.

“The financial side is in last place. First I ask the question if interests will meet, if what employers expect from you, you can give to employers and then already,” says Bobby.

Often the expectations of employers and job seekers diverge.

“Last winter a guy came who didn’t speak English, didn’t know the software of the hotel, we offered him 1,200 BGN net salary, with full insurance, which is 1,600 BGN, and he told us that this is a ridiculous salary. for Bansko, “explained Maya Bistrina, a representative of hotel managers.

There are also many Ukrainian citizens in Bansko who are looking for work. However, the language barrier is a problem. Dennis Elkin is one of them.

“I can do many things, I understand electricity, technology, as an engineer, I can also work as a driver, I graduated in Ukraine. However, I don’t know if they will recognize my studies in Bulgaria, I have a little difficulty with the language” says Denis Elkin.

In the sector, the shortage of young staff, mainly cooks and waiters, is the most acute.

Chronic starvation of personnel in our country

“Firstly, we are looking for staff ready to start work, so that there is not a long training period, so if it is not his to interrupt it and then start over,” said Mehmed Redzepov, a hotelier.

“The problem is that they go to work for two or three months abroad, they come, they get big exchanges and they don’t want to work in Bulgaria, or they come and they want to work without a contract,” said Maya Bistrina.

This year a ski resort holiday will cost us 20 percent more due to inflation and rising heating prices.
