Curiosity Explorer Captures Colorful Clouds on Mars

CALIFORNIA, iNews.id – Mars has a super-thin atmosphere compared to Earth, with only 1 percent density. The atmosphere on the Red Planet is also very dry. These two factors make clouds rare in the Martian sky.

But, two years ago, the Curiosity rover saw something interesting. There was a cloud forming overhead from its location, earlier than expected.

One Martian year later, Curiosity is ready to go cloud hunting once again. And, have captured some stunning and interesting cloud images in a normally cloudless sky, as quoted from Digital Trends, Monday (31/5/2021).

Curiosity started shooting clouds this time of year, starting in January. The researchers found the initial cloud they saw was different from the usual one because it was at a higher altitude.

Their clouds are not made of water ice, but frozen carbon dioxide. One of the most amazing phenomena in the Martian sky is the “mother of pearl” clouds, which are colorful and sparkle in various colors.
