Then PVV leader Wilders and outgoing Prime Minister Rutte collided. Wilders also finds the hastily instituted urgent appeal by the cabinet against the court’s decision to be incompatible with the “years” waiting time of victims of the benefits affair or the Groningen gas dossier. “You are the dishonesty of the Netherlands incarnate”, Wilders told Rutte. “Do you also think of the ordinary Dutch?”
According to Rutte, he certainly does the latter, and the pandemic and the gas and surcharge affair are incomparable cases. He said he agreed with Wilders that in “those terrible affairs” things did not go well “But here we have to protect the public health of the Netherlands. We must prevent a third wave.” Rutte also repeated that the curfew is “not for Mark Rutte”. “It’s not here if I have any kind of hobby.”
And most MPs do not have that hobby: nobody is a fan of the curfew. Nevertheless, most parties now support the cabinet in the new route, due to the insufficient decrease in the number of infections and the uncertainty about mutants. “In all the legal squabbles, we must not forget that we are dealing with a serious pandemic,” said 50Plus MP Van Otterloo.
Broad support
In addition to the government parties VVD, CDA, D66 and ChristenUnie, at least SP, GroenLinks, PvdA and 50Plus support the approach with the new emergency law. Those parties also form a majority in the Senate, which will discuss the reparation law tomorrow.
The parties call on the cabinet to “not let things go wrong again”. “It is painful that we have to talk about curfew for three days,” said PvdA MP Kuiken. “What is before us must hold up, we must not get wet again”.
SP MP Hijink: “For all care providers, for all young people, for everyone, we support measures to contain the virus. For these people we will again support a proposal to get the virus out of the country. But let the cabinet give that support. not to be understood as appreciation for the way in which this cabinet has so incredibly disrupted the legal substantiation for the curfew. “
