Unrest continues to intensify across the United States and for the seventh day in a row, the country is on fire, because millions of citizens seek justice not only for George Floyd, but for all those African Americans who have died at the hands of police officers in the American Union.
With racism, police violence and abuse of authority still present in the middle of 2020, protests and demonstrations have begun to radicalize, which is why several states and cities have chosen to declare a curfew, such is the case of New York, this, to try to counteract the riots throughout the country.
Curfew in New York: Schedules, Measures and Fines
For the first time in a long time New York establishes a curfew in its five boroughs, something that was not seen even with the coronavirus crisis in between. According to Andrew Cuomo, the curfew is expected to last a couple of days, however, the mayor of New York City, Bill de Blasio, has already announced that at least in the Big Apple, this will run until Sunday, June 7.
The curfew it goes into effect at 11:00 pm and no one will be able to leave their homes until 5:00 am the day of the following. If any citizen violates the order, then the police elements, unfortunately, will have the right to transfer them to prison.
The impact of George Floyd’s death
It is worth mentioning that not only in the American Union have there been protests against racism, then, Countries like Germany, Canada, England and Italy have also joined the demonstrations on behalf of George Floyd. Also, the music and entertainment industry launched ‘Blackout Tuesday’, a blackout in the respective industries as well as on social media, in honor of Floyd.
