Curfew in Düsseldorf: silent night, loud day | Regional

Düsseldorf – It was an eerie calm in the city. Almost deserted streets, hardly any cars on the way. The new exit restrictions in Düsseldorf came into force on Saturday.

However, the silence of the night could not save itself into the day this weekend. As early as Friday evening, crowds of people were jostling on the Rhine and Carlsplatz – many without a distance and without a mask.

From Saturday evening, 10 p.m., there was nothing to see of all the hustle and bustle, and the curfew came into effect. “It was noticeably quiet,” said a police spokesman. Accordingly, the old town was almost deserted.

The Düsseldorf public order office was also unable to detect any violations of the curfew. A city spokesman: “There were no special incidents and the regulations were adhered to very well.” Overall, the mission report for the weekend was exceptionally short.

BUT: During the day, the officials had to intervene more often because many apparently forgot to wear a mask in the city center and on the Rhine. Well over 50 proceedings were initiated on the banks of the Rhine and in the old town for violations of the mask and distance requirements.

With consequences for everyone? Mayor Keller (50, CDU) announced on Thursday that a renewed ban on staying had already been prepared, it would take effect if there were new gatherings of people.
