The Curacaa national football team had to resign just a few hours before the start of the North and Central American championship due to the high number of positive coronavirus tests on the team. The surprising quarterfinalists of the previous year’s 2019 Gold Cup in Group A were replaced at the last minute by Guatemala. This was announced by representatives of the CONCACAF federation.

The team of the small island state from the Caribbean, which has less than 160,000 inhabitants and is part of the Kingdom of the Netherlands, was to start the tournament with today’s match with El Salvador. Coach Guus Hiddink was to be represented on the bench by Patrick Kluivert. The seventy-four-year-old coach is still recovering from the consequences of covidem-19.
The Gold Cup is once again hosted by the United States this year, and will be played in nine American cities. The title from 2019 is defended by Mexico, the final is scheduled for August 1.
