Just a little more than a month after the global premiere of CUPRA, the new sporty SUV Terramar, which clearly embodies the DNA of the manufacturer, is preparing to enter the market of our area. The new Terramar will arrive in the showrooms of the CUPRA garage concept in Riga in November, but the prices of the special introductory offer in Latvia are already known – starting from 34,900 euros.
Efficient drive systems
Designed in Barcelona, the Terramar will be manufactured at the Audi factory in Győr, Hungary.
Five powertrains are available for the 4519 mm long (2680 mm wheelbase), 1584 mm high and 1869 mm wide model. The TSI gasoline, eTSI mild hybrid and the latest generation plug-in hybrid eHybrid engine develop 150 to 272 hp. All models have an automatic transmission, but versions with the most powerful engines also have 4Drive wheel drive.
Terramar VZ is the most powerful of the family. It is expected to be equipped with a 265 hp (195 kW) gasoline engine or a 272 hp (200 kW) plug-in hybrid. It consists of a 1.5-liter TSI engine, an electric motor and a 19.7 kWh battery, and their resources are enough to travel more than 100 kilometers between charges in emission-free mode.
Inside for the driver
Like other CUPRA brand cars, the Terramar also has a sporty steering wheel with gearshift paddles and ergonomic switches for different functions. Sport bucket seats are standard on the Terramar, so all drivers can enjoy a dynamic drive to the max.
In the new model, the manufacturer has introduced an improved control interface. In addition to several software updates, it includes a fully digital instrument panel and infotainment system with a 12.9-inch touchscreen in the middle. Next to it are illuminated sliding controls, while an easy-to-read projection screen provides the driver with the most important information while driving.
The company does not deviate from its sustainability goals, so the new model has many innovative products. For example, the bucket seats are made of polyvinyl chloride, but Seaqual fiber fabric is embedded in their middle sections. It is a material made of plastic waste collected from seas, oceans, beaches and similar places.
Drivers can transfer their digital home, including music, navigation maps and other functions compatible with the car’s ecosystem, to the Terramar using the fully connected wireless system wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. To keep smart devices always ready for work, Terramar has 15 W wireless fast charging technology with cooling function.
Continuing the collaboration with sound experts from Sennheiser Mobility, the CUPRA offers the option of a new 12-speaker audio system in its new model. Sennheiser Concerto algorithms and AMBEO technology are used in the configuration of the 390 W system. It carefully handles all parts of the piece, including individual instruments, as well as being records space, and distributes the music evenly throughout the cabin.
Four special personalities
Terramar equipment includes the latest generation of Dynamic Chassis Control (DCC) active suspension with two-valve shock absorbers, which significantly improves dynamics. The character of the car can be easily changed by creating your own individual profile or with four driving modes – Comfort, Performance, CUPRA (for VZ versions), Off-road (for all-wheel drive versions).
Both Terramar VZ versions can be equipped with the Akebono sports brake system. Its six-piston calipers have a larger diameter, and perforated brake discs (375×36 mm vs.
The Terramar equipment also includes new safety and comfort technologies. These include predictive cruise control, trip assist, side assist and safe exit, driver alert monitoring. Enhanced passenger protection is available as an option on the Terramar. Based on changes in dynamics, as well as information from front and rear radars, it will be able to detect an imminent accident and prevent unwanted consequences from an accident.
