It is strongly reminiscent of the study shown a year ago. The front with round fog lights remains aggressive and rugged even in the production model.

In the cockpit there is a 12-inch touchscreen for operating the infotainment and navigation system. Incidentally, both also work via voice or gesture control.

The continuous strip of lights at the rear is pretty. In the trunk there is space for at least 450 liters with the rear seat bench upright.

The prices of the Formentor starting at the end of the year have not yet been determined. However, they should come to rest over the Cupra Leon (from 44’450 Fr.).

We have seen it before. In fact, the Cupra Formentor (now named after a peninsula in Mallorca), now ready for series production and starting at the end of the year, hardly differs visually from the study shown last year. And that’s good. Because the 4.45 meter long but only 1.51 meter high crossover looks completely sporty and aggressive in line with the brand DNA.

Cupra fans can quickly find their way around inside: a lot is known from the Cupra Leon. The crossover also features sports seats with copper-colored decorative stitching and a digital cockpit. The 12-inch touchscreen positioned horizontally on the dashboard for operating the infotainment and navigation system is larger than in the Leon – by the way, it also works via voice or gesture control.

Sports petrol and plug-in hybrid
Group technology from VW is under the sheet. The top model, of course with 4×4 and DSG gearbox, is powered by the two-liter four-cylinder with 310 hp and 400 Nm. The Formentor is also available as a plug-in hybrid. The 1.4-liter TSI petrol engine known from the Cupra Leon is combined with an electric motor, which together produce a system output of 245 hp. From a purely electrical perspective, the plug-in formentor is expected to travel around 50 kilometers.

Cupra does not want to comment on the prices yet – it will take some time before sales start at the end of the year. Just so much: The Formentor should be more expensive than the Cupra Leon (from 44,450 francs). The new Cupra CEO Wayne Griffiths is convinced of the success of the crossover: “He has what it takes to significantly strengthen the position of the Cupra brand in the market.”
