CUPE health care workers deliver hundreds of messages to Saskatchewan Premier Scott Moe

On the first full day of the Saskatchewan provincial election campaign, CUPE health care workers delivered hundreds of postcards to Premier Scott Moe at the provincial legislature. The postcards were signed by health sector staff during summer awareness activities across the province.

“The message I heard from the hundreds of healthcare workers we communicated with this summer is clear: fatigue is here, we have had enough and we deserve better,” said Bashir Jalloh, president of CUPE 5430. “The postcards send a message to Premier Scott Moe: all health care workers must be recognized for their invaluable work. This recognition begins with a fair deal with better wages and better working conditions. »

Members of CUPE 5430 have been working without a contract for a year and a half. Negotiations are at a standstill because the employer is showing ill will and demanding concessions that will only worsen working conditions.

“People in Saskatchewan will go to the polls later this month. Health care workers and the public are called upon to make this election a decisive choice in health care, added Bashir Jalloh. Our health care system is in crisis and people running for office in Saskatchewan must make health care a priority. »

CUPE 5430 represents nearly 14,000 health care providers who work for the Saskatchewan Health Authority and its affiliates in five broad classification areas: clerical, technical services, nursing, support services and facility operations.
