For the Eisbären Berlin, the MagentaSport Cup for teams in the German Ice Hockey League (DEL) got off to a sobering start.
The ex-champions had to admit defeat to the Schwenninger Wild Wings clearly 1: 5 (1: 1, 0: 2, 0: 2) in his opening game of group B.
Due to the success, the Black Forests took over the championship lead in front of Red Bull Munich. The ex-master won 3-2 at the Adler Mannheim the day before.
In Berlin, the double scorers Darin Olver (1st and 28th) and Andreas Thuresson (24th and 57th) stood out among the guests, for whom Colby Robak (58th) also scored. The polar bears only managed to equalize through Parker Tuomie (8th).
The two best teams from each of the two preliminary round groups will contest the final tournament from December 10th. The Fischtown Pinguins Bremerhaven, Düsseldorfer EG, Grizzlys Wolfsburg and Krefeld Pinguine play in group A.
Eight of the 14 DEL clubs take part in the MagentaSport Cup. The competition is a test run for everyday league life in corona times. On November 19th (Thursday) the clubs will decide whether and with how many teams the DEL will start the season, which has already been postponed twice, on December 18th.
