Cumbre Vieja: Isabel Rodríguez: “We are all united to give the answer that La Palma needs” | Radio Club Tenerife

The Government Spokesperson, Isabel Rodríguez García, has assured that all the ministries are united and in perfect coordination to respond to the emergency on La Palma. Rodríguez explained this Wednesday in the SER that President Pedro Sánchez has entrusted his entire cabinet with immediate action, but “above all, that we are thinking about how we are going to help La Palma recover once the volcano stops.”

The minister has indicated that the intention is to be permanently in contact with the local administrations to be able to reinforce in everything that the smaller institutions have not been able to reach. In this sense, it has indicated that the Canarian Government has transferred to them that the 107 homes that are going to be bought with this first shipment of funds may be available to those affected before the end of the year.

In addition, he explained that the commission that has been created will allow efforts not to be wasted and be coordinated. Rodríguez also explained that it is impossible to quantify at the moment the amount of the losses, and pointed out that “the drama is still alive.”

In any case, the minister’s spokesperson said that the objective is to take advantage of it to break with some structural problems that the Island had and leave it prepared for the future.

Likewise, he announced that telephones and web portals will be enabled to attend to the requests of those affected and accelerate the process. It is also planned to move teams of sociologists and psychologists to reinforce assistance to the population.

On the other hand, regarding the request of the banana sector that they be exempted from the Food Chain Law to alleviate the damage that the volcano has caused them, he assured that the Minister of Agriculture is working to find formulas to help the owners of the farms.
