Culture to call the industry “these days” to listen to their suggestions

The Minister of Culture, José Manuel Rodríguez Uribes, will convene “these days” to the cultural sector to hear their proposals to alleviate the difficulties you are experiencing as a result of the coronavirus pandemic.

This was announced by the Government spokesperson and Finance Minister, María Jesús Montero, at the press conference after the extraordinary Council of Ministers this Friday, in which she detailed that she has been invited to participate in that meeting.

Montero has stressed that he is aware of extreme difficulties“that the sector is going through and that the Government will study its” singularities “so that they can benefit from the general measures already adopted and those that will be adopted in the future.”The Government is fully aware that culture is freedom and freedom is democracy and therefore it is an essential sector “, he added.

In advance and to prepare this meeting with the sector, both ministers They will hold another meeting with the Third Vice President and Minister of Economic AffairsNadia Calviño.

At that meeting three will be studied “stimulus measures that could be specifically applied the time has come in that sector, “said a spokeswoman for Culture.

The Government thus responds to a letter sent this Thursday by almost 40 associations and unions of the performing arts, music, movies and cultural management in which they accused Rodríguez Uribes, of “twitch the mood” of the industry by ruling out, for the moment, the adoption of measures specific to alleviate the crisis in the sector.

The signatories warned him that he was still “in time to lead the defense of Culture” in Europe and Spain and offered their collaboration to work on support measures, together with the Ministries of Finance, Labor and Social Security.

Montero’s announcement also occurs on the same day that the Union of Actors has called for a 48-hour “cultural blackout” -to which personalities such as Paco León, Leticia Dolera or Miguel Ángel Muñoz, singers such as Lola Índigo and theater companies such as Kamikaze or Teatro del Barrio- have already joined, in protest at this lack of measures.
