Light on Ida Lupino
Bel-Air resumes his usual meetings of the season , to which we must add this year an Ida Lupino cycle, offered in partnership with the ADRC (Agency for the Regional Development of Cinema). Born in London in 1918, Ida Lupino made her acting debut in British productions before moving to Hollywood where she was successful. Raoul Walsh, Nicholas Ray, Fritz Lang, Robert Aldrich offered him his most beautiful roles. In the mid-1940s, she was drawn to directing. With her husband, producer and screenwriter Collier Young, she set up an independent production company, The Filmmakers and became a producer, director and screenwriter of low-budget films, often sporting social issues, as in Outrages, in 1950, on rape or The Journey of Fear, in 1953, which made her the first woman to direct a film noir.
Six films are scheduled, with three screenings each. The first, The ghost ship by Michael Curtiz, will screen the week of November 25, with the 1is December a meeting with Yola Lecainec, film historian. The rest of the program: week of January 27, 2021: Before loving you by Elmer Clifton and Ida Lupino; week of February 24: To face Ida Lupino; week of March 24: Outrage , by Ida Lupino, week of April 21: The journey of fear Ida Lupino; week of May 26: Bigamie d’Ida Lupino.
