Dance, tradition, history and culture came together at the third “Ximopano No Kali” Dance Festival held in Tepetlaoxtoc, which in its third edition brought together dozens of traditional dance groups from various municipalities in the state of Mexico and several states of Mexico. country.

Here spectacular masks made by artisans, unique costumes made for the occasion, various hats, and historical utensils came to light. Ancestral dances, some dating back more than 200 years.

The festival this day had its excitement with the dance of “Los Tecuanes” by dancers from Acatlán de Osorio, Puebla. On stage were together the devil, the dog, death, the bull, the witch who danced as a symbol of brotherhood of dances, accompanied by the traditional “old men”.

“This is the first year that we come to this festival and we come with the message of unity and gratitude for preserving our ancestral traditions. Our dance “Los Tecuanes” dates back more than 100 years and we offer it for our religious celebrations and those of our people; Our dance has evolved over time but we preserve it in honor of our ancestors, said Andrés Martinez, one of the dancers personifying the devil.

“It is a traditional dance that comes from the time of the conquest and we represent the Cristeros of Spain. We present it every celebration of our town and we wear a mask handcrafted with various pre-Hispanic motifs accompanied by long white hair and green and red clothing.”

“For us it is a source of pride that they can recognize this dance and that it is recognized that we come from a community of Teotihuacán,” said Rubén Toriba, dancer.

The “Matlachines” from Tepotzotlán, state of Mexico was also presented with 14 dancers on stage. Accompanied by the “grandparents” who supervised the coordination of their steps.

These wore colorful feather plumes and wore a camisole in honor of the Virgin of Guadalupe.

Other dances were that of the Sembradores, the Santiagos, reapers, sowers, mountain people and mountain ranges of the municipality of Tepetlaoxtoc.

Hundreds of visitors came to watch the dances. During the festival, the municipality of Tepetlaoxtoc was recognized as a “Site of Historical Interest.”

The mayor of Tepetlaoxtoc, Ismael Olivares Vázquez, expressed that he will request the Ministry of Culture and the Mexican governor Delfina Gómez Álvarez to adopt said festival with the purpose of continuing the display of representative dances of this municipality named ‘Pueblo con Encanto’ a year ago. .
