Culture and education in the fight against pandemics

As here in Leipzig, library visitors do not stand in front of closed doors. You usually have to keep the mask on inside.

The cultural and university scene would like better rules to combat the pandemic. The requirement sounds reasonable, but is it even feasible? A look at the libraries and museums.

Dhe call for differentiation is growing louder. The provisions to contain the Coronavirus, insufficiently expedient and also unfair, because they do not affect everyone in the same way and also the most innocent – namely those who have presented sophisticated hygiene concepts, such as museums, theaters and concert halls. But can this be avoided at all if 75 percent of the infection process can no longer be traced back? For many cultural workers, one thing is only clear: this will not go well for much longer. Cultural life can no longer develop in the usual way. And now it comes to a complete standstill again.

University professors and students are currently in a similar situation and have to completely reinvent themselves on the disused campus. The Bureau of the University of Hamburg rejected the request to return to face-to-face teaching, which 31 lecturers had called for in an open letter. This is not compatible with the “containment regulation”.
