Culture. Alexis Desseaux, former actor of the series “Julie Lescaut”: “Kean, it’s one of my most beautiful roles”

Kean’s tour resumes and you will be at Thionville Tuesday. What is the subject of this piece revisited by Jean-Paul Sartre in 1953?

Alexis DESSEAUX : “This piece is astonishing, it is the fruit of the meeting between the romanticism of Dumas and the philosophical notions of Sartre. We also discover the influence of Simone de Beauvoir. Kean is a character who has existed. He was colorful. He was an adventurer, a mountebank. In this plot, it is about love, also rivalry and ambiguity. There is passion, excess too. The proposal of Alain Sachs, the director, is generous, with eight actors, five sets, thirty costumes. While it was written by Dumas in 1836, it still resonates today because it is rich in societal and political notions. Personally, I find it super-modern. We are in jubilation. “

You said it was one of your best roles. Why ?

“It’s not a story just for the sake of history. In this character, there is theatricality, the mise en abyme. When I was offered the role, my consciousness lit up. I felt the reminiscences of Misanthrope , there was also something of Antoine, the hero of Shakespeare. I like these characters between suffering and exuberance. I like to bring out what they are going through. Kean is a huge happiness for me and I am enthusiastic to come back on stage to defend this masterpiece. “

For twenty years, you played Inspector Motta in the Julie Lescaut television series. How do you manage to break away from such a character and get other roles?

“I will never deny this series even if this role was frustrating, because I played someone wise, self-effacing, who changed little over the episodes, but it allowed me to learn a lot. Since then, for many, I remain confined to this character even after all these years and the multiple projects on which I was able to collaborate. It’s very difficult after that to bounce back. “

You are an actor but also a director. What are you hoping for today?

“I always want to say things and I work on a lot of pieces and projects. In thirty years of career, I have never eased off. My dream ? A nice role in the cinema, a role that would have thickness. “

Tuesday October 6 at 8 p.m. at the Thionville theater. Price 25 €.
