Cultural plans and good food, the proposal of Emiliano Suárez in Madrid

Keep

My compulsory circuit in Madrid mainly includes shows and cultural activities and visiting good restaurants. As a theatrical and musical producer, creative consultant and director, I am passionate about art in all its forms and I dedicate my time and my work to this as part of Ópera Garaje, a production company with which we seek to bring opera closer and present it in a novel and alternative format.

To spend a good weekend in the capital, my places of worship are the Matadero and the Cineteca. If the plan is more rogue, you can see me in Chicote, Puri Stockings or El Amante.

I also usually enjoy the live music that is programmed by the Café Central, the Sala Caracol or the AC Recoletos hotel and the works presented by my favorite theaters: from the Zarzuela, Spanish, María Guerrero and Marquina. On weekends, I also go to the movies, although always in the original version, so I am often seen in the Palafox, Morasol o Renoir.

I like it eat well, and I have many friends in the world of catering. Among them, José Morán in De la Riva, Andrea Tumbarello in Don Giovanni, Trifón Jorge in El Fogón de Trifón, Pepa Muñoz in El Quenco de Pepa and Pepe Blanco in command of his Commodore.

But I also visit bars from El Doble, Casa Revuelta or Rafa and good food from other restaurants, such as La Tasquita de Enfrente, Sacha, Taberna Verdejo and Taberna Pedraza.

Many days I am, of course, in Garage Lola, the creative space that we opened a few months ago in Madrid, with the idea of challenging top-level artists to rescue under-represented proposals or approach lyrical and classical pieces from alternative formats. There we are organizing clandestine gastronomic dinners, but also about to premiere the exhibition ‘Mares’, by Jame Sicilia (opens on the 12th of this month), and the play ‘The three queens’ (opens on the 28th), in which the Granada soprano Mariola Cantarero faces the vocal challenge of representing the three Elizabethan queens.

Exactly, Garage Lola is in the neighborhood of Tetouan, in an industrial warehouse, in coherence with its philosophy and objectives. Creative alternative projects of different formats are moving to that area of the capital. We want that, to value forgotten culture and emerging contemporary art.

Emiliano Suárez (Bilbao, 1976) worked at Suárez and Aristocrazy for two decades. He has also directed advertising campaigns and created the Punk Bach restaurant. He is currently a producer and cultural creator. He has founded the Garaje Lola space and is a stage director and co-producer of Ópera Garaje.
