With contagious joie de vivre and unfailing determination, Josiane Comeau literally shone in 2020. Acadie Nouvelle therefore wanted to highlight the career of the laureate of La Voix, which brought color to this rather difficult year.
Upon learning that she had been chosen Cultural Personality 2020 of Acadie Nouvelle, Josiane Comeau said she was honored.
“Oh wow! Thank you very much, ”exclaimed the 19-year-old Dieppe.
His adventure at La Voix, which began last winter and continued in the fall until the final on October 18, was followed by hundreds of thousands of people both in Acadia and elsewhere in the country.
The young Acadian who won the competition with flying colors made many people dream. Josiane Comeau receives this immense wave of love with gratitude.
“Looks like it’s way too good to believe. I am really happy, lucky and pampered. ”
If the year 2020 remains to be forgotten for many of us, for Josiane Comeau, it was the year of consecration.
After an unsuccessful first attempt at La Voix in 2019, she again appeared in front of the four red armchairs in 2020 to complete what she had started. This time was the right one for the singer who was able to follow in the footsteps of her father Jacques Comeau who, in 2019, had reached the semi-final.
A few Acadian artists have distinguished themselves in musical reality TV in the past, but only Josiane Comeau has succeeded in triumphing on La Voix during the eight seasons.
She compares her journey to a staircase that she climbed step by step. She feels that she has grown up from this experience as intense as it could have been. Staying yourself and living in the present moment are the two great lessons she learned from the adventure.
“I realized that I made my place in this world and I realized who I am as an artist, but also as a person. It really helped me grow and manage my time well and live in the moment. ”
At each of his performances, the judges praised his development, his ease on stage and the quality of his performances. The one we have compared, among others, to the singer and actress Ariana Grande concluded this eighth and final season of The Voice with a bang by revisiting the play Lonely by Noah Cyrus.
We also learned that the singer cherished the dream of becoming a family doctor. She agrees that combining preparatory studies in medicine and television has brought its share of challenges.
Looking back, she still wants to continue her efforts in both areas, but instead of completing her preparatory program in two years, she plans to complete it in three years. Thus, she will have a little more time for music in 2021.
Since her victory, she has been on a promotional tour and has performed in a number of Christmas shows in Quebec and Acadia, including The Newbies’ Holiday Big Household.
An album in sight
She is already working on the creation of a first album with the Musicor record company.
“We had a meeting to get things going. I had a lot of songs written on my side and now I’m bringing them to life and seeing what we can do with it. “
The singer-songwriter plans to record an album with pieces in French and English, a sort of nod to the bilingualism of the province. She wants to do something young, fresh and anchored in the music news. As she already has a lot of original compositions, she wants this first opus to bring together her own songs.
“It’s going to be in the musical news, new pop, maybe new country, Billie Eilish style, Ariana Grande. I would like all my compositions to be on the album. That’s the plan. ”
As for the release of the disc, it is difficult to predict because of the health crisis. She wants to be able to undertake a tour of shows following the album’s launch. For production, she intends to spend her time in order to offer a quality work.
“Looks like it’s the first time in my life that I really see that I could do something with my music. It’s always been something of a hobby and now I really see it as a dream I could make. ”
Perfectionist, Josiane Comeau does not want to do things by halves. This album, she maintains, will be as personal as possible while also relying on the team that revolves around her.
“I’m super picky, so working with me on the album, it’s going to take time and patience because all the little details are important, not just the vocals.”
Family medicine still interests her as much, assures her who seeks to help others. She admits that she can’t make a choice between these two careers, at least for now.
“I was fortunate enough to work in a nursing home this summer and loved my experience so much. Helping people in different ways is good for you and for others. I think music is also a way of doing good for people. It complements who I am. I work hard for both. I like to give and I want to give. It’s something I’m working on, and then it links those two careers. ”
On January 16, the public will be able to see her sing with her father Jacques Comeau as part of the Interconnectées show, which brings together three theaters in southeastern New Brunswick.
