In the middle of the media hype, the cult snack bar Hans Wurst in Kassel goes one better: Now it’s getting hot!

Kassel – “I’m afraid you have to grow,” comments a user on a Facebook post by the cult snack bar Hans Wurst. Another user writes: “If things continue like this, then our Hans Wurst will become a world star.” A real media hype has broken out about the cult snack bar in Kassel in recent weeks. German and Austrian radio and TV stations have reported on the Currywurst Hawaii at the cult snack bar in Kassel. Now snack bar operator Benjamin Becker is adding a new flavor – but currywurst fans have to be quick.

“Must try”: Currywurst-Hawaii from cult snack bar Hans Wurst from Kassel goes viral

It all started with a TikTok video. It shows snack bar operator Benjamin Becker making a “Currywurst Hawaii”, i.e. a currywurst with pineapple. The TikTok clip of the cult snack bar Hans Wurst in Rothenditmold now has 2.7 million views. And there is a lot of discussion: Is the Currywurst-Hawaii top or a flop? Another TikTok video shows the production of a Currywurst Hawaii “with everything” – i.e. ham and cheese in addition to the pineapple. “It shakes me,” comments one user.

Overall, however, the positive comments about Currywurst-Hawaii outweigh: “Very good combination, harmonizes very well with each other,” comments a Facebook user. And now many want to try it. “In the past week alone I used up 30 cans of pineapple,” says Becker, pleased about the success of the Currywurst-Hawaii. He also thanks his haters on TikTok and Facebook for the success: “Without the controversial discussion, this hype would never have been triggered.”

After the success of the Hawaiian version of the currywurst, Hans-Wurst operator Benjamin Becker and his friend Fabian Krug are now going one better. “The media response was huge and everyone asked what was coming next,” says Becker. This is how the idea came about: Every Sunday there is a vote on Facebook – users can then choose from three unusual creations. “The winner is then given for a week.”

Cult snack bar Hans Wurst in Kassel had a vote – the currywurst Peperoni won

On Sunday, in addition to Currywurst Surf and Turf, there were also two versions with fresh peppers to choose from, one with and one without cheese. The voting was clear – the variant with fresh peppers without cheese won. They are now available until the next vote on Sunday (January 29). “It tastes really good. Very fresh,” says an enthusiastic customer. There is now also a TikTok video of the preparation of the pepperoni currywurst – it currently has around 49,000 views. “With 500,000 clicks on TikTok, it will be added to the menu!” says the Hans Wurst Facebook page. It will be interesting to see whether the “Currywurst Peperoni” will trigger the next hype.

Otherwise, customers can then vote on other new creations in the snack bar in the coming Sundays. “We do this until we run out of ideas,” says Becker. But as he says it, you get the feeling it’s not going to happen anytime soon. “For example, I’m thinking of fries with meat salad,” says Becker – so customers can be curious about what’s to come. It is important to him that there are only creations that the customers actually eat.

Other Kassel residents are also successful with their TikTok videos. Alexander Nold takes pictures of people on the street in Kassel or sometimes gets well-known restaurateurs in front of the camera. His TikTok videos get a lot of views. (kasa)
