The Wizarding World of “Harry Potter” never ends

After the original “Harry Potter” series concluded with “Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows – Part 2” in 2011, there are currently no further films planned in the age of the famous sorcerer’s apprentice. Instead, the novels by J.K. Rowling will be re-adapted into a series for the US streaming service Max, with each book having its own season. Over the course of ten years, seven fresh seasons of “Harry Potter” await us from 2025, in which young faces will follow in the footsteps of Daniel Radcliffe, Rupert Grint and Emma Watson.

The “Fantastic Beasts” series is set as a prequel to the original “Potter” series and was originally intended to consist of five films. After the rather moderate success of the last part “Fantastic Beasts 3: Dumbledore’s Secrets” about the magizoologist Newt Scamader (Eddie Redmayne) and wizarding legend Albus Dumbledore (Jude Law) in his prime, other parts of the “Animals” series are currently on hold. While director David Yates assured that the magic wands will probably be waved here again one day, the filmmaker, like the Wizarding World, has other priorities at this point.

The Wizarding World is one of the ten largest media empires in the world with sales of over 32 billion US dollars, what the “Potter” and “Beasts” films say Statesman but “only” amounts to $9.58 billion. Additional income comes from, among other things, merchandising products, the “Cursed Child” play, international exhibitions and video games – including the much-discussed “Hogwarts Legacy,” which was released this year. In terms of film alone, the “Harry Potter” universe is the third most successful franchise of all time, after the MCU and “Star Wars”. In the fantasy genre, the magical world of Harry and Co. is still unbeaten to this day.
