“Does he have any butter on the fish?” was a well-known question in Hanseatic times and meant “Does he have any money?” One of many questions that will be answered for the first time this year during the exciting culinary city tour “Butter at the Fishes” on Saturday, January 20th at 11 a.m.
Because if you didn’t have a butter dip with your fish, you were missing an essential part of the meal. The Hanseatic era had a lot to offer – the culinary journey into the past leads into a world of culinary delights and delights and delights with a varied menu made up of incredible stories, little anecdotes and a selection of city-specific specialties.
Back in time with high-tech glasses
During a two-hour guided tour through Stade’s old town streets, participants learn interesting facts about food and drinks from the Hanseatic era as well as eating habits and rituals of the time. The guests are not only fed with culinary stories, but also with useful background information about the Hanseatic League and Stade’s role and trading partner at the time. Starting in the Schwedenspeicher Museum, the themed tour of the Hanseatic exhibition there initially provides an overview of earlier trade routes and trade goods in the Middle Ages.
