Cuevas golf course will lay off 24 workers pushed by Brexit | I raised

The effects of the pandemic on the hospitality industry, linked to those of Brexit, are being felt in the Levante Almeriense. So much so that the Desert Springs hotel company, belonging to the Almanzora Bay Group, located in Cuevas del Almanzora, has submitted an Employment Regulation File (ERE) with layoffs for part of its staff and that, according to internal sources, It will take effect on February 1, as soon as the current extension of the ERTE ends.

“Until the end of this month we are within the ERTE, but in February the company will begin to apply the ERE to those affected by the regulatory file.”

As IDEAL has learned through affected sources of the workforce, Desert Springs has presented an ERE with termination of contracts where it raises the need to thin the structure so that the minimum employees are kept in the workforce so that it works until the reopening conditions are met, added to previous large monetary losses.

Regarding the number of layoffs put on the table, staff sources estimate the number of proposed layoffs at about 24. On the other hand, the rest of the employees who do not join the ERE, at the moment do not know if they would continue to be included in the ERTE until the end of May or if they will be able to start working from February.

The workers with whom this newspaper has spoken explain that the layoffs arise in the catering service departments, in the restaurant and maintenance.

The company, which presents the ERE for reasons of economic losses in recent months, is in negotiations with the affected employees. “Right now we are fighting for compensation for 33 days per year worked, but the company has proposed only 20”.

On the other hand, this newspaper has tried unsuccessfully to contact those responsible for Desert Springs.

Desert Springs Resort was inaugurated in 2001 and since then it has aimed to offer golf games and vacations.
