Hugging Away the Pain: Students Bring Joy to Seriously Ill Children
Imagine a world suddenly turned upside down, where the carefree laughter of childhood is replaced by the fear and uncertainty of a serious illness. This is the reality for countless children battling heart defects, rare skin conditions like epidermolysis bullosa, or facing developmental challenges.
But two students from Nijmegen HAN Communication course, Sanneke Haas and Lara van Rosmalen, are determined to bring a glimmer of joy to these young lives through their heartwarming project, "Project Cuddly Bear."
“Suppose you are told that you are very ill or that someone you know is not doing well at all," they remind us. "Then your world will suddenly turn upside down."
Project Cuddly Bear aims to fund groundbreaking research and offer direct support to foundations dedicated to improving the lives of these children. Their belief is simple: even small gestures can make a huge difference.
Hugs and Hope:
In recent weeks, Project Cuddly Bear has made significant strides. A campaign for the De Inkleur Porsche Foundation, which provides relief and joy to seriously ill children, saw the collection of over 750 cuddly toys – a true testament to the power of kindness.
This was followed by a successful fundraising drive for the Hartekin Foundation, an organization committed to helping children with heart disease.
"Knuffelbear shows that help can also be done without much time and money," Haas and van Rosmalen emphasized.
Continuing the Journey of Hope:
With the end of the year approaching, Project Cuddly Bear is continuing its mission of spreading warmth and cheer. In the final weeks of 2024, the project will partner with the Vlinderkind Foundation and the Over the Rainbow for Maud Foundation, organizations that support children with rare diseases and those battling serious illnesses.
"Are you giving a moment of joy again to children who are seriously ill?" the students ask. "Also put in via Knuffelbeer. Small or big, it doesn’t matter. With your donation you will be contributing to a bright space for a child who could really use it.”
