Cuco Morales prepares sculpture exhibition

Plastic artist Cuco Morales inaugurates “Dragon” this February 15.

The plastic artist Cuco Morales celebrates the Chinese New Year by interpreting the images of the Chinese horoscope and capturing them in a dozen sculptures.

“The year begins on February 10, according to the Chinese calendar and is dedicated to the Dragon, hence the name of the exhibition. This is a celebration that for me, who believes in the stars, is very important. “Dragon” It is the product of years of study and reinterpretation of these images, a time that has led me to explore new techniques, going from drawing to cutting and from there to metal,” explains Cuco Morales.

The pieces that make up “Dragon” They are characterized by having a palette of light colors, characteristic of Cuco’s work, and they also contain that style. naive so present in various stages of the plastic artist’s long career. “An important part of Chinese philosophy is the search for the center, the balance between yin and yang, focusing between good and bad to be better people for the common good, therefore, regardless of whether one believes or not. In horoscopes, this one in particular, contains all that teaching, hence its importance,” says Morales.

Under this philosophy, each of the sculptures that are part of this exhibition have been thought of by the artist as a game, from the perspective of his inner child, and invites you to do the same when you face them. Observing the shapes of the animals, the colors, among other details, from that point of view, will make the viewer find more than one surprise in each piece.

In sum, “Dragon” It invites us to play through color and shapes, to marvel at the details, regardless of whether or not one believes in horoscopes or new beginnings. It invites us to recover our innocence and decontaminate our gaze, which is the only way to surprise ourselves like when we were children.“Dragon” It opens this February 15 in the bookstore gallery The Rebel of Barranco (Jr. Battle of Junín 260).
