Cubano was shot in Miami-Dade and the police shot the shooter

A man of Cuban origin was shot to death last Thursday night, March 2, in Miami-Dade County, while his attacker was killed hours later by the police after having barricaded himself.

According to detective and county police spokesman Álvaro Zabaleta, the victim was identified as 39-year-old Jean Gutiérrez, who was shot four times in the back.

The shooting took place at an apartment complex located in the 19800 block of Southwest 114th Avenue.

The Cuban survived the initial attack, but died minutes after being taken to Jackson Memorial South Hospital.

Authorities said a SWAT response team arrived on scene to deal with an active shooter case, warning people to stay away from the area.

The person responsible for the crime was identified as 25-year-old Donovan Watson, who opened fire on the officers after spending hours holed up in one of the apartments.

As a result, police returned fire, shooting the shooter dead on the spot. According to the preliminary investigation, the subject did not know Gutierrez, and it is believed that the latter attacked him randomly.

Neighbors indicated that the victim was on the autism spectrum, and was engaged in maintenance work.

“May God have him in glory, because that was an irreproachable son, of soul, heart and life. That’s where they shot me in the back, kid. They shot him four times in the back, boy, ”he declared to Univision the father of the Cuban

Gutierrez’s mother, Bertha Marino, said he struggled with his autism but was an honest person who wanted to work, something he had done since coming to the United States 10 years ago.

“What the murderer did has no forgiveness from God, I still don’t know how I’m going to have to bury my son,” said the woman, who pointed out that Gutiérrez has a son who is only four months old and a wife, both on the island.
