The state airline Cubana de Aviación SA had to cancel its flights to Argentina due to lack of fuel, something it blamed on the embargo that the United States maintains on the Castro regime.
According to an official statement, the aviation fuel supply companies in the Republic of Argentina would have refused to provide services to the airline after claiming that they did not want to suffer the sanctions of the North American country.

The island’s government indicated that the Argentine refusal also affected other airlines contracted by Cubana de Aviación to transport the affected passengers, which is why they have not been able to fulfill the commitments made to the passengers.
“Passengers booked on these flights who are in the Republic of Cuba and plan to return to their country on April 24, will be protected to the extent that there are seats available, which can be offered by airlines that have air connections from Cuba. towards Argentina,” indicated the General Director of Cubana de Aviación, Arsenio Arocha.
According to the letter, those passengers who have not started their trip to Cuba will be able to receive 100% of their ticket refund.
Cubana de Aviación had resumed its flights between Havana and Buenos Aires in May 2023, also resuming its flights from Argentina to Cayo Coco.
As a consequence, the number of travelers visiting Cuba increased by 44% between January and March 2024, registering 12,753 Argentine tourists during that time.
Currently, diplomatic relations between Cuba and Argentina are going through a moment of tension, since the recently elected Javier Milei has openly criticized the dictatorships of Latin America, which could have caused the decision of the fuel supply companies of the South American country.
