Cuban woman is murdered by her ex-partner in a bar in Tapachula

A Cuban identified as Iván N. was arrested on Thursday, November 30, in the state of Chiapas, Mexico, after having murdered his ex-partner, also originally from the Island, while she was working in a bar in the city of Tapachula.

According to local media NAU News in Timethe victim was identified as Yarleni N., who was working as a waitress when the attacker arrived at the scene with a machete and began to attack her.

Some witnesses indicated that the Cuban was detained by two other employees of the establishment. After the police arrived, the man was taken into custody, while the two employees were treated by paramedics after being injured from the confrontation.

The press indicated that, by the time the Auxiliary and Emergency Services (SAE) paramedics arrived at the scene, the woman no longer had vital signs and was declared dead at the scene.

The attack would have occurred around 2:00 pm, when the police received an emergency call alerting about a serious attack at the ‘La Caguamera’ bar, located on the side of the road that leads to the community of La Pita.

The person responsible for the attack was taken into custody of the Migrant Assistance Prosecutor’s Office, and now faces charges of qualified homicide to the detriment of his ex-partner. Authorities have launched an investigation to determine the causes of the attack and carry out due legal process.

Initially, the victim was identified as a woman of Honduran origin, but this was corrected by different local media shortly after. Likewise, they indicated that the couple temporarily settled in Chiapas, but that their objective was to continue their journey north to reach the border with the United States.

“He entered furiously wielding a machete and attacked the woman, repeatedly injuring her face, stomach and legs,” the Diario del Sur outlet reported.

The aforementioned media revealed that the man ran out of the premises after committing the crime, in an attempt to escape, but some diners and workers chased him to the street. Finally, a municipal highway patrol stopped his escape attempt, disarming him and subsequently arresting him.

After requesting support, more patrols arrived at the crime scene, cordoning off the area to prevent other people from entering. Videos shared on social networks show experts investigating the area as part of the routine process.
