The US authorities arrested a man of Cuban origin accused of having participated in a series of frauds against Home Depot stores in the states of Florida, Illinois and Nevada.
According to the medium Local 10 Newsthe subject was identified as Yusser Echemendia Rodríguez, 38 years old.
The Miami-Dade County Police Department indicated that the detainee belonged to a criminal network that was dedicated to making fraudulent orders and refunds, merchandise launches with and without paperwork, and theft of items from said store since 2020.
Now, the Cuban faces several charges for participating in this fraudulent scheme, as well as robbery and retail theft.
Official records indicate that Yusser Echemendia Rodríguez will face the judicial process in freedom after having paid a bond.
According to an investigation carried out by the authorities, the Cuban would be allegedly responsible for some 70 robberies, as well as causing losses of thousands of dollars for Home Depots in Florida and Nevada.
In turn, the police verified that Echemendia Rodríguez came to change the barcodes of several products to pay less. The investigation also indicated that the detainee was seen on December 27 choosing tiles in a Miami store, paying for only one and taking three others without paying.
The Cuban was also caught on video stealing about $200 worth of tiles from another Home Depot located in the Deerwood Town Center. A day later, he paid for six boxes of tiles at another South Miami Heights store, leaving the store with 12 boxes in all.
Detectives noted that the suspect’s car contained several items from Home Depot, worth hundreds of dollars. Among these items were toiletries, fixtures, a $259 white marble countertop, and a $349 eight-foot patio umbrella.
Miami-Dade detectives indicated that one of the most recent recordings shows Echemendia along with Lazara Rodríguez, a woman accused of similar crimes, stealing at least $600 worth of merchandise from one of the affected stores.
