A truck driver of Cuban origin was arrested and charged with attempted murder after participating in a violent fight in a parking lot in the city of Miami, where the other truck driver ended up wounded by a gunshot.
According to local media America TeVéthe fight took place on April 16 around 1:30 pm, in a truck yard located at 8720 91st Street in the northwest of the city.
The detainee, identified as Rafael Antonio Guevara, was stabbed during the fight, so, to take revenge, he returned to his truck and took out a firearm with which he shot the other person.
The victim was identified as Yoan Pino Cruz, who is recovering in the hospital with a gunshot wound to the face.
For his part, Guevara appeared in court this week, where he was charged with attempted second-degree murder with a deadly weapon and unlawfully discharging a firearm in a public place or residential property.
The authorities’ report indicates that Pino arrived at the parking lot first with a dump truck, and that Guevara later arrived aboard an SUV.
The two had a “violent altercation” in which the former stabbed Guevara several times, who walked back to his vehicle and returned with a gun.
Guevara ran back to the door and stopped “adopting a shooting stance” with the gun in his hand pointing at Pino Cruz’s truck, who was already leaving the scene.
According to the police, the detainee fired at the truck on two occasions, hitting one of the shots.
When officers arrived at the scene, they found Pino Cruz on the ground near his truck, bleeding deeply with a gunshot wound to his face. The truck driver was rushed to HCA Florida Kendall Hospital, where he continues to recover.
Guevara had multiple stab wounds to his abdomen, so he was transported by helicopter to the Ryder Trauma Center at Jackson Memorial Hospital, where he underwent surgery.
Almost 20 days after the incident, the man remained detained without bail at the Turner Guilford Knight Correctional Center.
The detectives in the case consider that there is “probable cause” to determine that the defendant intentionally committed an act that could have resulted in the death of the victim, for which he was charged with attempted second-degree murder.
For now, the police continue to investigate for information about the relationship between both truckers and the cause of the fight.
