The authorities of Texas, United States, arrested a truck driver of Cuban origin accused of having caused a fatal traffic accident in the city of Valley Mills, in McLennan County.
The man was identified as Maikel Alpizar Espinosa, 44 years old, who is being accused of being responsible for an incident that occurred on September 22 on Highway 6 in Valley Mills.
The trucker was arrested by the US Marshalls Lone Star Fugitive Task Force, dedicated to tracking down fugitives from the law, suggesting that the Cuban escaped the scene on the day of the accident.
Following his arrest, in which the Valley Mills Police Department also participated, Espinosa was taken to the Fort Bend County Jail, where bail was set at half a million dollars.
The man will now remain detained at that location until he can be transferred to McLennan County. Espinosa faces charges of involuntary manslaughter.
At the moment, Texas authorities continue to investigate the circumstances of the accident, to gather evidence in the case. Valley Mills police did not release the identity of the deceased person.
In the state of Texas, the penalty for involuntary manslaughter can be a sentence of between two and 20 years in prison, depending on several factors unique to each case. Likewise, the charge carries a fine of up to $10,000.
Cuban wanted in Houston for murder
Espinosa, whose social networks claim to be originally from Ciego de Ávila, has not been the only Cuban who was a fugitive from the police in the city of Houston in recent days, as the authorities are searching for Roger Betancourt Castillo, 40 year old, accused of having ended the life of his ex-wife.
The murder would have taken place on Sunday, October 8 around 5:00 pm, in apartment 3004, located on the second floor of the Wesley Gardens apartment complex, where the victim resided.
According to sources close to the deceased, Betancourt went to the woman’s apartment during the early hours of the morning, which is why she called the police; however, when the officers arrived, he had already left.
