A citizen identified as Roberto Tomás dedicated a forceful message to the Castro authorities after, due to the serious shortage on the Island, he was forced to transport his mother’s coffin on a scooter, popularly known as “riquimbili.”
The man did not bother to hide the discontent he felt due to the current situation on the Island, which made it impossible to obtain a hearse to transport the mortal remains of his mother in the town of Florida, located in the province of Camagüey.
The publication described the services provided by local authorities as deficient, demanding a response from the communist government.
“What professional ethics are you talking to me about when our party and government leaders of Florida are not capable of maintaining a car of death for the municipality?” Tomás questioned in a message addressed to the Prime Minister of the Republic of Cuba, Marrero. Cross.
He also questioned the way in which the Island’s authorities use the few resources they have, using fuel for tasks that should not be a priority.
“What do they do with that gasoline and oil from those cars?” he added.
Tomás said that, after complaining, a local official offered to solve the problem, but it was too late, since the funeral had been scheduled for 10:00 a.m.
“Juan Carlos, the community chief, upon finding out that I was going to take my mother to the riquimbili, told me to wait, but he told him that it was too late and that I was also going to publish what happened, to see if this municipality and its leaders have a little bit of humanity and shame,” he added.
Tomás’ publication generated controversy on social networks, with dozens of users sending their condolences and making it clear that they found the situation very outrageous.
“Cuba is already lost. Not even the dead have anything to take them out of the funeral home with”; “This situation experienced today is sad and outrageous” and “My deepest condolences… What a lack of humanity… There is no longer any shame in this crowd,” were just some of the comments made among Internet users.
