May he rest in the love and peace that he has always transmitted,” reads the announcement. According to the AP agency, Milanés was being treated for cancer in Spain. He was hospitalized in early November, when he canceled the concerts at the same time.
One of the most internationally known Cuban singers, during his more than 50-year career, he has recorded dozens of albums and hits, including the songs Yolanda, Yo Me Quedo or Amo Esta Isla. The AP agency writes that the singer has traveled the world as a cultural ambassador of Fidel Castro’s revolution.
“Culture in Cuba mourns the death of Pablo Milanés,” Cuban Prime Minister Manuel Marrero Cruz wrote on Twitter, expressing his condolences to the singer’s family and friends.
