The husband of one of the 10 Cubans who died in an unfortunate traffic accident at the beginning of October in Chiapas, Mexicomanaged to reunite in the United States with his youngest daughter, who was also present at the accident.
This is Adrián de Jesús Velazco, who lost his wife Ailen Moreira while she was traveling through Mexico with their two children, Arianni de la Caridad, 7 years old, and Alejandro Adrián, 12.
The minor was received by her father, who was carrying balloons and a stuffed animal in his hands, something that meant a lot to both of them.
“When I saw her, I didn’t know whether to cry or laugh. “I didn’t know what to do,” the man told the Univision cameras.
Despite the joy he experienced, Velazco will have to wait a little longer to be reunited with his son, since the minor was seriously injured after the accident.
According to his statements, the man was fighting for his children to enter the United States, but he obtained an appointment for CBP One until October 20.
However, the difficulties did not end there, since, by traveling without their parents, the minors were placed in the custody of the federal government, which added more paperwork to the process.
Now, while Adrián managed to reunite with his daughter in the last hours, he will have to wait a little longer to see his son, since he was seriously injured after the accident, and, although he has improved, he had to be hospitalized in the United States to undergo some tests.
The worst thing about the current situation is that the minors still do not know that their mother died in the accident, so Velazco will have to have a very difficult conversation when he has met with both of them, which he hopes will happen at the end of this week.
His wife’s body was cremated and repatriated back to the Island, something that the Castro government promised after learning of the terrible traffic accident that occurred during the early hours of October 1.
After the incident, which left 10 women from the island dead, and another 17 passengers injured, Velazco requested help so that her two children could arrive to the United States as soon as possible with a humanitarian visa.
The man could not leave the country to go get them, since he had only been in the US for 10 months, so he did not have his residence.
“My boy is hospitalized, he had surgery on his spleen and now he has a problem with his lung, and I have the girl at a friend’s house. What I want is to have my children,” the man said in previous statements given to journalist Mario J. Pentón.
