After three days in which he completed an intense bilateral agenda, Cuban President Miguel Díaz-Canel concluded his working visit to the Russian Federation this Thursday.
This Thursday, May 9, the Cuban president held a meeting in the Grand Kremlin Palace with his Russian counterpart, Vladimir Putin, where both demonstrated the good level of bilateral relations, as well as the importance of the celebration of the 79th anniversary of the Day of Victory over fascism.
During the meeting, the president of the Caribbean nation delivered a message to the Russian president sent by the leader of the Cuban Revolution, Army General Raúl Castro, and stated that the visit to the Russian Federation always constitutes a satisfaction and a moment of learning.
Previously, the Cuban president participated along with nine other leaders in the military parade in Moscow’s Red Square, and laid a wreath at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier, in front of the Kremlin wall, to honor the memory of those who fell in the Great War. Patriotic War (1941-1945).
On Wednesday, the also first secretary of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Cuba completed an intense day that began with the placement of a wreath before the monument to the historical leader of the Cuban Revolution, Fidel Castro, erected in his honor in the Moscow neighborhood from Sokol.
After the visit, the head of state was received by the vice president of the Russian Security Council and leader of the United Russia Party, Dmitri Medvedev, who asked to “convey greetings and best wishes to Army General Raúl Castro.”
Medvedev and Díaz-Canel highlighted with satisfaction the results achieved between political organizations to date, and the work potential presented for their development in the future. Subsequently, the Cuban president participated for the first time in person in the expanded format of the Supreme Eurasian Economic Council, organized by Russia on the occasion of the tenth anniversary of the creation of the Eurasian Economic Union (EEU).
During his speech, Díaz-Canel said that he was in Russia just at the time when the 64 years of the reestablishment of relations between Cuba and the Soviet Union were being celebrated.
He also thanked the member countries of the EEU for their constant support in the fight of the Cuban people against the cruel economic, commercial and financial blockade of the United States.
As a culmination of the second day, Díaz-Canel held a meeting with the leader of the Communist Party of the Russian Federation, Guennadi Zyuganov, where both demonstrated the good state of relations between the political groups.
The visit to the Russian Federation of the Cuban president was the third in his capacity as head of state. The first was held from October 27 to 30, 2019, and the second from November 19 to 22, 2022, and in all of them he held meetings with Putin.
