Florida authorities arrested a man of Cuban origin accused of causing the death of a person during an accident on Coral Way.

The police report maintains that Remedios did not come to a complete stop during a red light and ended up hitting a Nissan Altima vehicle in which the victim was traveling. This person was turning left off the Palmetto Expressway.

Authorities described the scene of the accident, noting that the vehicle of the deceased, whose name was not revealed, ended up halfway and counterclockwise.

The Miami-Dade Police Department also noted that the Nissan rear-ended a third vehicle.

After the incident, the Cuban was subjected to toxicology tests, which revealed that Remedios had 0.273% alcohol in his blood on the night of the events, three and a half times the maximum legal level allowed for driving.

Additionally, it was known that the vehicle was traveling at a speed of 81 mph (130 km/h) at the time of the accident, this in an area where the maximum limit was 40 mph (64 km/h).

Remedios was arrested on Wednesday, February 21, and was later transferred to the Turner Guilford Knight Correctional Center, where he remains with bail set at $75,000.

The Cuban faces one count of vehicular manslaughter and one count of driving under the influence of alcohol.

The Florida Department of Highway Safety and Motor Vehicles (FLHSMV) states that people prosecuted for vehicular manslaughter can receive up to 15 years in prison, a fine of $10,000, and suspension of their licenses. to drive.
